Microsoft Imagine Cup POLAND 2010

Microsoft Imagine Cup is a premier student technology competition in which participants from all across the world compete in various categories including, Software Development, Robotics, Game Development, Digital Media, Mashups and many more.

The competition for this year has been announced and will be open in Pakistan from this month after a ceremony in Karachi. The finals for this year will be in Poland which will be a Microsoft Pakistan funded trip if you win the national rounds in any category.

Just to make a point here, IBA has had a great history in the MS Imagine Cup. In fact, in 2005 teamIBA led by Muhammad Talha (BBA-MIS 2005) even came in the top six teams in the world. Every year from then we have always made it to the national finals.

The competition is not about great programming skills (obviously you need some to make the solution), but it is more about SIMPLE ideas which help solve LOCAL problems. As seen on the website, the competition always themed. For the past few and the coming few years the theme was decided to be the "UN 8 Millenium Development Goals".

Anyone interested in participating in the competition can contact me for any sort of details about local rounds, software support, or concept development on my email.

For more details about the competition, the categories and the theme please visit the Imagine Cup website.

As our industry matures, we feel that the networking between the industry and its customer base is extremely important.

The judging for the Awards will take place on September 30 followed by a Roundtable in the evening of the same day.Two mini conferences will be held on the morning of the 14th of October.

Last year the winners of the P@SHA ICT Awards winners participated at the Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA) and came back with 3 trophies thereby indicating that innovation and quality exists in our local industry and is second to none.

The objective of holding these awards year after year is to:
1. Recognize innovation in the industry which is extremely
important if we are to motivate people into continuing to innovate.
2. Projection of this product innovation, both locally and
internationally, so that companies are able to make these products commercially successful.
3. Participation of winning organizations at APICTA on an
Asia/Pacific level against products from Asia and Australasia. This allows for benchmarking of their innovation against those from the region. It also highlights the kind of work that is being done in Pakistan
4. Publicizing the winning entries shows the diversity of product
areas and the type of innovation in cutting edge areas that companies are involved in.
